Steven Raphael

Steven Raphael is the James D. Marver Professor of Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment. His research focuses on labor economics, the economics of crime and corrections, and immigration, with particular emphasis on the labor market consequences of incarceration, policing policy, and criminal justice reform.

He is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, the University of Chicago Crime Lab, an adjunct research fellow of the Public Policy Institute of California, and an affiliated professor with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).

He received his Ph.D. in Economics from UC Berkeley in 1996.
